By Dr. Cristina G. Gallato

On-the-job training (OJT) is a capstone course that gives opportunities to students to apply in the actual world of work, their knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies that they have acquired within the four corners of the classroom. It serves also as an avenue for them to discover their strengths and weaknesses.

In preparation for their practicum, 90 OJT students of the School of Accountancy underwent an orientation on Good Grooming and Proper Office Decorum at the Hantson Conference Hall on December 4, 2009 at 1:30 pm to 5:00pm. They are under the advisership of Mrs. Felicidad V. Divina, Mrs. Dorilyn Tiongson, and Mrs. Ma. Concepcion T. Jalijali.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Cristina G. Gallato, OIC Dean of the School of Accountancy, stressed the importance of good interpersonal relationships and positive attitude which employers are looking for in their prospective workers/employees. She also reminded the trainees on the objectives of the OJT program.

Mr. Sherween Saquing, a faculty member of the School of Arts and Sciences, was tapped as the resource speaker. It is to be noted that due to his very good knowledge in the aforementioned topics, he was also the resource speaker last school year. He emphasized the importance of a pleasing personality and proper behavior in the work place. “Your pleasing personality and positive behavior shall bring you to the heights of success,” he said.
