SMU Tourism and HRM students attend the Municipal Tourism Convention 2014

 With the objective of stimulating local tourism in the capital town of Nueva Vizcaya, the Municipal Tourism Council of Bayombong together with the LGU planned and organized the 1st Dekat-Citrus Festival and the Municipal Tourism Convention with the theme, “Explore the Rich Culture of Bayombong” on August 7, 2014 at the LGU Gymnasium.
In the morning, the Dekat-Citrus native delicacy was unveiled for the convention participants to taste. These native delicacies out of glutinous rice with an infusion of locally grown citrus were declared winners during the cookfest last July 9, 2014. Ice and fruit carvings were demonstrated by SMU Laboratory Assistant Mr. George Rawson A. Guiab (for the ice) and selected NVSU students (for the fruits). The TESDA provincial office also sponsored a citrus cocktail and mocktail demonstrations for everybody to partake. These drinks were prepared by selected HRM students of SMU and the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Maritime School. The Convention was graced by the Honorable Governor Ruth Raṅa Padilla and OIC, DOT Region 02  Ms. Josefa G. Mallabo with a representative.
In the afternoon, Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Mrs. Marichelle O. Costales discussed on the topic: “Strengthening the Resiliency in the Nueva Vizcaya Tourism Industry”, with emphasis on its ecotourism opportunities.
This event ended with an organization of Hotel, Resorts, Restaurants Owners/Managers and representatives from the Academe which will be working together with the Municipal Tourism Council  on its endeavor of strongly promoting local tourism. Moreover, Tourism and HRM students were also organized and had elected its set of officers.
