HTM dept. joins World Food Expo and 2014 PH Culinary Cup

Through the Faculty Development Program and the laboratory fees of the students, 4 faculty members and 15 students of the Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) Department of Saint Mary’s University (SMU) were able to join the 14th World Food Expo (WOFEX) and 2014 Philippine Culinary Cup on August 7-9, 2014 at SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

The event was participated by schools, universities and hospitality establishments nationwide showcasing the skills and competence of HTM students and professionals.

The HTM department of SMU joined the competition for the first time to benchmark for other activities and competitions. There were three students from SMU who competed for the different categories namely, Joel T. Fernandez, BSHTM-HRM 4, for the Dress the Cake, Deseree Suzaine P. Dote, BSHTM-HRM 2, for the Plated Dessert and Joey C. Pascua II, BSHTM-HRM2, for the Wedding Cake Competition.

Aside from the competitions, the faculty and students also attended the seminars held during the last day of the said event to learn the latest trends in the industry. The said seminars were Hotel, Restaurants, Catering (HORECA) Trends and Food and Beverage Career Forum.

SMU’s HTM department is looking forward to have more students participate in the WOFEX 2015 and compete for other events/competitions. #
