Keeping up with the 4 C’s of Saint Mary’s University, the School of Health Sciences selected five Nursing students to interact with four competent doctors and a professor/nurse from University of Illinois, Chicago in an online class via the internet connection. The class started on the first semester of school year 2010- 2011. Since then it has been held every Sunday of the week at 9 A.M until 12:00 noon The class which includes discussion of health issues concerning the people of Nueva Vizcaya. The Dean, Madam Mildred Marilao leads the Nursing students alongside with Midwifery Coordinator Madam Mylin Guinabay as the online class adviser. Phoebe Kaye V. Acojido, Czarina Grace T. Adawe, Mary Angeli Humiwat and Van Jasper Bautista, all 3rd year Nursing students and Jhomae Castillo, a senior nursing student were chosen among all other Nursing students based on their performances in the Nursing program.

Dr. Christopher Guerrero, a Filipino doctor in the U.S spearheads the project with the help of fellow doctors: Dr. Vincent Domingo, Dr. Thomas Wubben, Dr. David Ramsey, and Nurse Margaret Cassey. The online class inaugurated in the school year 2006-2007, whereby 10 Nursing students in the University were chosen to participate in an online course. The project has continued to educate nursing students on how to approach certain diseases in the most effective ways through detailed discussion of diseases, their management and interventions. The students respond to the doctors by conducting simple researches and surveys in certain barangays of the province in order to determine the common health problems of the people and apply what they learned in the online sessions as well. The students are supported financially by the fund of the School of Health Sciences. During the launch of the project, Dean Marilao said, “It is in this simple way that we can reach out to people in need of health services here in the province and prove that we are stewards of God’s creations.”

By February 17, 2011, the Global Medical Foundation will come all the way from Chicago, USA for a free two- day medical mission in far- flung areas of Nueva Vizcaya. The Saint Mary’s University in partnership with the Global Medical Foundation and the University of Illinois Chicago will have a recognition program for the five online class students for the success of the said project. The project costs not a single centavo for the participants through the support of Dr. Guerrero who is also the founder of the Global Medical Foundation and a proud alumna of Saint Mary’s University. During the first online class meeting, Dr. Guerrero expressed his warm congratulations to the selected students for embracing the challenge of making difference in their chosen profession.
