CHED grants COD, COE to SMU

The Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) has granted Saint Mary’s University (SMU) its Center of Excellence (COE) for the Teacher Education Program and Center of Development (COD) for the Civil Engineering Programs and Information Technology Education.
COE status is granted to institutions “which continuously demonstrate excellent performance in the areas of instruction, research and publication, extension and linkages and institutional qualifications.”
COD status is for those that “demonstrate the potential to become a Center of Excellence (COE) in the future.”
According to CHEd, SMU’s COE for the Teacher Education Program and Civil Engineering Program is effective from April 1, 2016 until December 31, 2018 while the validity of the COD for Information Technology Education Program is from January 1, 2016 until December 31, 2018.
Programs with COE and COD status are granted with financial assistance for student support, faculty and institutional development, and extension and linkages.
