Level III Re-Accreditation Status granted to SMU Grade School Program
The Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP) has granted a Level III Reaccreditation Status to the Grade School Program of Saint Mary’s University (SMU) for meeting the standards and fulfilling all requirements given by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).
The Grade School Program SMU has applied for a Level III Re-accreditation. The said programs were evaluated in a resurvey visit held on January 18-19, 2016. The new status granted to the said programs is valid until December 2021.
The Level III status acknowledges that the SMU has a reasonably high standard of instruction and a well-developed mechanism for improving and upgrading its own curriculum. It recognizes the creditable performance of SMU that promotes effectiveness of teaching and learning. It also acknowledges the high level of achievement and performance of students in both academic and co-curricular activities and lauds a highly visible community outreach program. The Level III status also recognizes the strong faculty and staff development tradition.
The Program was evaluated by five evaluators based on six areas: Administration and School Staff; Faculty and Academic Non-Teaching Personnel; Curriculum Programs and Instructions; Instructional Media Center: Student Services; and Facilities. PAASCU Representative for the reviewing was Ms. Gemma Chua.
The members of the PAASCU Survey Team were; Ms. Arlene Cruz, former Grade School Principal of St. Paul College, Pasig City; Ms. Rolita Tubig, Director for Personnel and Administrative Affairs of Assumption College, Makati City; Mr. Clifford Esteban, Basic Education Principal of St. Joseph’s College of Quezon City, Quezon City; Ms. Emilia Malaluan, former Librarian of Assumption College, Makati City; and Ms. Elvira Ursula Lavara, former Assistant Principal for Student Affairs of Claret School of Quezon City, Quezon City.
The Level III Accreditation grants SMU several benefits namely: “Authority to offer new courses allied to existing Level III courses without need for prior approval, provided that the concerned CHED Regional Office (CHEDRO) is duly informed; Privilege to apply for authority to offer new graduate programs, open learning/ distance education, extension classes and to participate in the transnational education; Limited visitation, inspection and/or supervision by CHED supervisory personnel or representatives” and many more. Meanwhile, the University has recently received a Level III re-accreditation status for its Arts and Sciences, Business, Entrepreneurship, Elementary Education and Secondary Education last February 2016 which is valid until 2020.
It should be noted that the Civil Engineering (CE), Master of Arts in Education (MAED), Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT/MST), Master in Business Administration (MBA), and Ph.D. Educational Management (Ph.D. EDM/EdD) Programs are already Level III accredited by PAASCU effective until May 2017.
