Global Engagement Officer of Howest University in Belgium Visits SMU

Aimed at strengthening its international linkages with relevant institutions and organizations, Saint Mary’s University was visited by Ms. Katelijne Demeyere, global engagement officer of Howest University of Applied Sciences, Belgium. The said partnership between the two universities added an international flavor to the Marian brand of education.  Moreover, special citation was given to Ms. Demeyere for her relentless effort in supporting the internationalization initiatives, and promoting global engagements of Saint Mary’s University. This recognition was accorded to her during SMU’s 91st Commencement Exercises held last July 1, 2022 at the Tonus gymnasium.

A partnership meeting led by SMU administration and Admissions and External Relations Office was conducted in the afternoon at the university board room. Fr. Philip A. Yu Jr., Vice President for Missions and Identity, led the invocation, while Dr. Moises Alexander T. Asuncion, Vice President for Academic Affairs, gave the welcome message. Furthermore, Dr. Clara M. Gonzales, Head of Admissions and External Relations Office, introduced the participants and presented the highlights of the partnership between SMU and Howest University. A message on the renewal of partnership commitment was delivered by the Dr. John Octavious S. Palina, the University President. This was followed by an open forum facilitated by the master of ceremonies, Mrs. Lysel Haloc. The program was formally closed by Dr. John G. Tayaban, Vice President for Administration.

      Aside from the renewal of partnership, other highlights that were laid down were the long term commitment trajectory and suggestions for opening more pathways to innovation. In her response, Ms, Demeyere, emphasized the paramount contribution of fostering global friendship especially in the academic arena. (With reports from Nadine Rosario)
