Marian Nursing Students Celebrate 29th Capping and Candle Lighting Ceremony

Another turning point was achieved by second year Marian student nurses on September 12, 2025 as they held their 29th Capping and Candle Lighting ceremony. This event signaled their entry as they venture into the world of nursing profession.
This special occasion was graced by nurses from different institutions as they witnessed and took part of this momentous event. The event started with the opening remarks addressed by Dr. Joman J. Baliton, the Dean of School of Health and Natural Sciences, followed by Dr. Sherylou A. Benig, the department head, as she introduced the guest speaker of the event, Dr. Czarina grace T. Adawe, Medical Officer III of Region II Trauma and Medical Center. In her speech, she shared her own journey in nursing, leaving a profound reminder: “Life will not wait for us to feel ready. We cannot run away from setbacks or uncertainty. Instead, we must equip ourselves with the right tools, sharpen our skills and knowledge, and carry the right attitude to withstand the challenges of this vocation.” She also inspired the batch with the message that “Nursing is not about perfection—it is about presence… offering not just care, but compassion, dignity, and hope.”
A standout moment of the event was the graceful portrayal of Florence Nightingale by Ms. Clarita Esperanza Dychitan, RN, a respected faculty member of the Nursing Department. This symbolic tribute set the tone for the solemn Capping, Pinning, and Candle Lighting ceremony that followed. Presided over by chief nurses and public health nurses from partner hospitals and rural health units, the ritual marked the students’ readiness to embrace the call to service with compassion and dedication.
The occasion also featured the recitation of the Nurses’ Pledge, led by Ms. Jaydine M. Panganiban, and the Consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary, led by Kaerylle Anne B. Pulinnek. The heartfelt performance of the batch song, “The Climb,” further reflected the unity and determination of the students as they continue their journey together.
The program concluded with a touching Word of Thanks from Ms. Zusmitha V. Saldivar, BSN II Year Representative, who expressed gratitude on behalf of the batch to all those who have supported them. In her closing remarks, Mrs. Janice M. Asuit, RN, RM, MSN, BSN Level II Coordinator, reminded the students to carry their batch name with pride—as a constant reminder to serve with mercy, guided by faith, and strengthened by love for humanity.
