SMU CEIPSC conducts a Learning Visit to the HAU CKS

With the aim of strengthening the operations and programs of the Museo de Maria and Pansin-uuh’mu-an of the Community Engagement and Indigenous Peoples Studies Center, a learning visit was held at the Center for Kapampangan Studies (CKS) of Holy Angel University, Pampanga, on March 12, 2026.

The benchmarking activity began with a tour of the four museums – the Main Museum, the Pinatubo Museum, the Museum of Kapampangan Arts, and the Holy Angel University History Room – supervised by CKS. The tour of these museums provided insights into the Center’s museum management, while the visit to the John A. Larkin Library provided insights into the production and collection of creative works as well as the publication of research and books, including archival materials, on Kapampangan and in Kapampangan.

The three-hour museum and library tours, with the assistance of a student tour guide, concluded with a discussion with the three-member CKS Team, composed of Dr. Robert Tantingco, VP for External Affairs and CKS Director; Mrs. Myra P. Lopez, Assistant Director; and Mr. Leonardo Calma Jr., Creative Director.  During the meeting, the CKS team emphasized that more staff members are not needed to sustain the CKS’s operations– the museum’s projects and outputs have been carried out in collaboration with the faculty and students of HAU. The CKS is now more focused on the production and publication of books and other print materials related to Kapampangan studies. Other than these, the Centers’ digitization and digitalization initiatives are their best features. Other local museums nearby were also visited.

The learning visit to the Center for Kapampangan Studies, which was coordinated and facilitated by Dr. Raymond Patterson, Head/Protocol Officer of Performing Arts and Events Management at HAU, reaffirms the crucial role of the Center for Community Engagement and Indigenous Peoples Studies Center in promoting the arts, culture, and heritage of the many ethnolinguistic groups in Nueva Vizcaya. The Saint Mary’s University team is composed of Christopher Allen S. Marquez, CEIPSC Director, Laurice Kaye Laguinday, Indigenous Peoples Studies Coordinator, and Jade Gacuan, Museum Staff.
