ECOLOGICAL-CHSF WEEK: Project GreenMind, in collaboration with the slogan-making Contest, the Plogging Activity, and Tree Monitoring

The University’s ECOLOGICAL–CHSF Week took place from November 17-22, 2025. This week marked an exciting celebration highlighting the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Project GreenMind, in partnership with the World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature Philippines and in collaboration with the Community Engagement and Indigenous Peoples’ Studies Center (CEIPSC), National Service Training Program (NSTP), the Student Central Council (SCC), various student organizations, including Marian RISE, SERVE SMU, Marian Leo Club, Safety and Pollution Control Office (SPCO), and volunteers, organized three main activities: a slogan-making contest, a plogging event, and a tree monitoring program. Each activity encouraged students to share their beliefs, take action, and promote environmental responsibility on campus and in the surrounding communities. Furthermore, each activity supported the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land), as students engaged in actions that promoted sustainability and ecological protection.

The slogan-making contest, held on November 19, 2025, inspired students to creatively articulate their call to end plastic pollution and promote ecological awareness. Their entries not only showcased artistic talent but also echoed the collective desire for a cleaner and greener future. It aligns strongly with SDG 12 by raising awareness on reducing waste and choosing sustainable alternatives. Meanwhile, the plogging activity, which took place on November 22, 2025, brought environmental action to the ground, as groups of students jogged and walked through designated areas while picking up plastic litter. This fusion of fitness and community service emphasized that caring for the environment can be integrated into everyday routines. This fusion of fitness and environmental service supported SDG 11 by contributing to cleaner communities and SDG 13 by emphasizing proactive action against environmental degradation. Lastly, the tree monitoring activity, which followed the plogging activity, allowed volunteers to revisit previously planted trees, assess their health, and document their growth, spearheaded by the Marian RISE student organization. This reinforced the message that sustainability is an ongoing responsibility that requires attention and care, which also directly contributes to SDG 15, which advocates for the protection, restoration, and enhancement of terrestrial ecosystems.

Through the combined efforts of different offices, organizations, participants, and volunteers, Project GreenMind successfully deepened environmental consciousness and promoted active engagement. The Ecological-CHSF Week became more than a celebration, with other activities, it evolved into a reminder that every Marian has a role in ensuring ecological balance and contributing to long-term sustainability.
