BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya – Twenty-five senior high schools from public and private participated in the 4th Nueva Vizcaya History Quiz Bee held on March 6, 2026, at St. Therese Hall, Saint Mary’s University. 

With the theme “Layers of Legacy: Unfolding the History and Culture of Nueva Vizcaya,” the fourth time of the competition still aimed to promote students’ awareness and appreciation of the province’s rich and diverse history and culture. The Master of Arts in Teaching Social Studies students organized the event in the subjects SS 202: Advanced Intercultural Geography and SS 201: Assessing Students’ Learning, in partnership with the Nueva Vizcaya Historical Society, the Provincial Local Government Unit Tourism Office, and the School of Graduate Studies. Serving as judges were Mr. Erwin L. Esmeralda, MAT Social Studies, and Ms. Mikara Kaye Z. Jubay-Dulay, Museum Researcher I and Acting Tourism Operations Officer I of the PLGU Tourism Office.

After four rounds of the competition, Saint Jerome’s Academy bagged the champion, followed by Nueva Vizcaya General Comprehensive High School as first runner-up, and Bintawan National High School as second runner-up. Quezon National High School and Saint Mary’s University Senior High School were hailed as consolation winners. 

Dr. Kenneth L. Maslang, head of the Social Science and Philosophy Department, and one of the founders of the competition, welcomed the participants with the history of the establishment of the Nueva Vizcaya History Quiz Bee. He emphasized that the competition was made possible through the support of the late Carlos M. Padilla. He also noted that the program not only encourages friendly academic competition but also helps Novo Vizcayano students understand their roots and appreciate how Nueva Vizcaya’s past shapes the present.

The program was also attended by Dr. Hydee D. James, head of the Teacher Education and Humanities Cluster, who delivered her inspirational message. She congratulated the organizing team and participants who sacrificed and made changes to sustain and learn the province’s history. She encouraged the participants to continue learning and discovering the rich history of the province.

Furthermore, the event concluded with a message from Ms. Jubay-Dulay, who appreciated and congratulated the coaches and students for promoting the province’s heritage. She also pledged that the next History Quiz Bee next year will be held in a larger venue, with big prizes and assistance with participants’ expenses to attend the competition, with the support of the Provincial Local Government Unit.
