Saint Mary's University Students Successfully Complete Summer Work and Travel Program

BAYOMBONG, NUEVA VIZCAYA — Ten senior students from St. Mary’s University’s College of Hospitality and Tourism Management have returned from a successful almost five-month stint in the United States as part of the Summer Work and Travel Program. The students, who left in March and came back in August, immersed themselves in American culture while gaining valuable work experience at various host companies.
The program provides international students with the opportunity to live and work in the U.S. during their summer break. Participants are employed in seasonal jobs, allowing them to experience daily life, travel, and interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
Students were placed in three different states:
- Texas: Students Jasper P. Bacena, Zari Ariana L. Daguasi, Jeremiah Humprey S. Ebreo, and Mike Lorenz L. Yanguas worked at Six Flags Over Texas.
- Indiana: Students Eleonor Joy C. Ceria, Kyneshie A. Dalpig, Mikee Angelique C. Florendo, Rodolfo M. Lim III, and Sunshine D. Ramil were employed at Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari.
- Tennessee: Student Theresa Ines P. Dela Cruz worked at NASCAR Speedpark.
The students’ participation in this program is a testament to St. Mary’s University’s commitment to providing its students with practical, real-world experience. The program’s immersive nature allows students to substantiate their academic knowledge with hands-on skills and a global perspective. The experience is expected to significantly enhance their resumes and prepare them for successful careers in the tourism and hospitality industries.
The university faculty and staff led by Mr. John Michael Ibarra, CGSP., are proud of the students’ achievements and believe the skills and cultural insights they have gained will prove invaluable as they complete their final academic year. The success of this cohort is a promising sign for future participants in the program.
