SHANS Promotes Youth Mental Wellness Through St. Dymphna’s Project

The School of Health and Natural Sciences (SHANS) of Saint Mary’s University, through the Community Engagement and Indigenous Peoples Studies Center (CEIPSC), reaffirmed its commitment to community wellness and education through St. Dymphna’s Project: Youth Mental Wellness Campaign, held on October 15, 2025, at St. Teresita’s Academy of Aritao Inc.

Carrying the theme “Building a Resilient Mindset: Stress Management Among Teenagers,” the seminar-workshop brought together nursing students and faculty members who engaged 107 student participants in meaningful discussions on emotional resilience and stress management. The initiative was implemented under the CEIPSC Office, through the Community Engagement Program, and spearheaded by the BSN 4B class with selected BSN 4A students as part of their capstone experience in community health nursing.

The program highlighted SHANS’s alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)—underscoring the university’s dedication to holistic education by extending classroom learning into meaningful community action.

Through the project, SMU nursing students not only demonstrated their advocacy for mental health but also their commitment as future health professionals to nurturing a stronger, more resilient generation.
