SMU honors scholars and awardees in recognition program

Saint Mary’s University honored a total of 1,291 students during its Recognition Program for Academic and Entrance Scholars, Service Grantees, and Dean’s Listers for the Second Semester, A.Y. 2024-2025 on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the Rev. Cornelius Tonus, CICM Gymnasium. The event commenced with a processional at 7:30 a.m.

Among the honorees were 7 Gold Merit Scholars with a 100% tuition discount, 129 Silver Merit Scholars with a 50% tuition discount, and 307 Bronze Merit Scholars with a 25% tuition discount. In addition, 480 Dean’s Listers, 355 Service Grantees composed of student leaders, varsity players, and performers from SMU’s performing groups, and 13 Entrance Scholars were also recognized.

The program featured Atty. Dayana C. Hermoso, a Magna Cum Laude graduate of BSEd-Math 2016, a 2024 Bar passer, and now an instructor at the SMU College of Law, as the inspirational speaker. Atty. Hermoso, a Bronze Loyalty Medalist and former SMU Senior High School teacher, delivered an inspiring message that encouraged students to strive for academic excellence and resilience.

Meanwhile, Miss Queyzelle L. Teaño, an Accountancy senior and Gold Merit Academic Scholar, shared the collective response on behalf of the honorees. Miss Teaño earned the highest general weighted average (GWA) during the first semester of A.Y. 2024-2025, exemplifying dedication and hard work.

The Recognition Program highlighted SMU’s unwavering commitment to fostering academic excellence, leadership, and holistic development, inspiring Marian students to excel and create a positive impact in their respective fields.
