SMU-HTM conducts book donation drive to support literacy advocacy

Saint Mary’s University (SMU) made a meaningful contribution to the promotion of literacy and education by participating in a book donation drive initiated by the Junior Tourism and Hospitality Management Association of the Philippines- Saint Mary’s University Chapter in Bua Integrated School. The event, held on November 23, 2024 in Barangay Bua, Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya; aimed to provide reading materials to emerging communities, fostering a love for learning and knowledge.

The initiative was led by Mr. John Michael C. Ibarra, SMU-HTM department head, and Mr. Neil Aldrin S. Cacal, CGSP, JTHMAP-SMU Chapter adviser along with the JTHMAP-SMU Chapter officers: Mr. Luis Arvin G. Mendoza – Board Member for Tourism Management 3, Ms. Nicole Ann A. Belmil – Vice Governor for External and Extension Services, and Ms. Almyra Joy B. Garcia – Governor.

Together, they generously donated over 130 books, including grade school textbooks, college references, magazines, maps and globes. These materials were thoughtfully selected to cater to various age groups and educational needs. SMU volunteers also actively participated in organizing, sorting, and distributing the books, showcasing their dedication to the cause.

A highlight of the event was the meaningful interaction between JTHMAP SMU-Chapter officers and the teachers from Bua Integrated School. Their heartfelt gratitude was expressed through warm responses and the awarding of certificates, emphasizing the significant impact of the initiative. This experience also provided the volunteers with a deeper appreciation for the importance of education and community engagement.
