Sharlene Mae D. Domingo, a second-year student enrolled in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, major in Marketing Management (BSBA-MM2), is set to enrich her educational journey through the prestigious Erasmus+ Grant Student Exchange Program at Howest University of Applied Sciences in Belgium for the Spring Semester from February 1 – July 1, 2025. This opportunity is a testament to the robust international partnership between Saint Mary’s University and Howest University.

Erasmus+ is a flagship initiative of the European Union aimed at enhancing education, training, youth, and sport in Europe. The program promotes cross-border collaboration, allowing students from participating institutions to study abroad, immersing themselves in different cultures and educational systems. Domingo’s participation underscores the university’s dedication to its internationalization goals of providing its students with global perspectives essential for success in today’s interconnected world.

“I am incredibly excited about this experience,” remarked Domingo. “The chance to study Applied Sciences in Global Business Management not only enhances my academic knowledge but also enables me to immerse myself in a new culture, meet diverse people, and gain insights that will be invaluable for my future career,” she added.

Domingo will focus on practical applications of business concepts in real-world scenarios, honing her skills alongside top educators and industry professionals. Her experience will culminate in projects that deal with contemporary challenges facing global businesses today, from digital transformation to sustainable practices.

The Erasmus+ program emphasizes the importance of social collaboration and personal development. Sharlene believes that the connections and skills she forges during this exchange will position her advantageously in the competitive landscape of business management.

Through the initiatives of the SMU Promotions, External Relations, and Internationalization Office (PERIO) and in partnership with Howest University, SMU has been granted Erasmus+ scholarships, which continue to fund several international exchange programs for faculty and students, ensuring SMU’s global presence.

Sharlene embodies the spirit of exploration and learning as she embarks on this remarkable opportunity. She is poised to leave her mark in the global business management arena. As she prepares for her upcoming journey, Sharlene expresses gratitude for the support of the university and her family. “This opportunity is more than just an academic experience; it is a chance to grow as an individual and a future leader in the business world.”

The institution eagerly anticipates her journey and looks forward to the insights and experiences she will share with the SMU community upon her return.
