Marians Pursue International Study in Belgium through Erasmus+

Saint Mary’s University marks another milestone with the international mobility of three Marian students pursuing a five-month study program at Howest University of Applied Sciences, Belgium, under the Erasmus+ and international mobility initiatives.

The students are Ms. Jemille Culanag, a 4th-year BSED English student enrolled in We Teach the World program, and Mr. Zarmin Joshua Espinosa, a 3rd-year BS Information Technology student under the Applied Computer Science program. Both are recipients of the Erasmus+ Grant Program, making them part of the 4th batch of SMU Erasmus+ grantees. They are joined by Ms. Sharlene Domingo, a 3rd-year BSBA Marketing Management student taking up Global Business Management as part of her international study.

The three students will be in Belgium from September 15, 2025, until January 29, 2026. For the next five months, they will immerse themselves in specialized courses, academic projects, and intercultural exchanges alongside students from various parts of the world.

Their participation highlights SMU’s commitment to providing Marian students with meaningful global experiences and strengthening its partnerships through the Erasmus+ program and other mobility initiatives.

This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting inclusive and equitable access to global learning opportunities. It also contributes to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strengthened collaboration between SMU and Howest University of Applied Sciences.

Through the initiatives of the SMU Internationalization Office and in partnership with Howest University, SMU has been granted Erasmus+ scholarships, which continue to fund several international exchange programs for faculty and students, ensuring SMU’s global presence.
