A Win for Wellness: Nueva Vizcaya Honors SMU’s Award-Winning Tourism Innovators

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya — In a proud moment for the province’s academic and entrepreneurial landscape, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Nueva Vizcaya officially recognized the Team 4PAUSE from Saint Mary’s University (SMU) during its 33rd Regular Session on March 3, 2026.

The recognition comes on the heels of the team’s historic win at the Regional Vetting of the Tourism Start-Up Challenge, a flagship initiative of the Department of Tourism (DOT) in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The recognition was formally sponsored by Hon. Flodemonte S. Gerdan, who commended the group for their innovative pitch, “4PAUSE.” The project aims to revolutionize the local tourism industry by transforming Nueva Vizcaya into a premier “therapeutic destination.” By leveraging the province’s natural landscapes and cool climate, the startup proposes a tech-driven wellness sanctuary that balances digital connectivity with the need for a physical “pause” and mental restoration.

Hon. Gerdan and the provincial board emphasized that the success of these “proud Novo Vizcayanos” aligns perfectly with Governor Jose “Jing” Gambito’s vision of a “Naturally Vibrant Nueva Vizcaya.” The provincial government has pledged its full support through the Provincial Tourism Office to ensure the project’s successful rollout, highlighting the critical role of the youth in driving economic growth through innovation.

The Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya’s recognition of Team 4PAUSE exemplifies SDG 16 by validating youth-led excellence through transparent, accountable governance. This legislative act aligns with SDG 17, showcasing a robust partnership between the local government, the DOT, and the academic sector. Furthermore, it advances SDG 8 by championing entrepreneurship and sustainable tourism innovation. By honoring these “proud Novo Vizcayanos,” the province fosters a supportive environment where technological creativity is institutionalized, transforming academic projects into viable economic drivers that promote decent work and regional development.
