SMU-ROTC Unit Surpasses Previous Rating in RAATI 2026, Sets New Standard of Excellence

The Saint Mary’s University ROTC Unit delivered a strong performance during the Regional Annual Administrative and Tactical Inspection (RAATI) 2026, earning an outstanding rating of 99.043 percent. The result surpasses last year’s performance and reflects the unit’s strengthened commitment to discipline, operational readiness, and administrative excellence.
Masters of Ceremonies, Mr. Allan S. Guiab, Secretary of the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs and Services, and CPL Valienmar T. Orani, PA (Res), facilitated the program proper. Rev. Fr. Philip Yu, Vice President for Mission and Identity, led the opening prayer, setting a reflective tone for the proceedings. University President Dr. John Octavious S. Palina followed with his welcome remarks, emphasizing the institution’s mission of forming disciplined and service-oriented individuals.
Col. Arnel A. Floresca, GSC (INF) PA (Res), formally handed over the unit color, symbolizing leadership and accountability within the corps. Col. Camilo A. Saddam then presented an overview of the inspection, outlining its standards and expectations.
The SMU ROTC Unit demonstrated precision in a ceremonial parade, followed by an intermission number by the Marian Chorale Society. The inspection then proceeded with simultaneous evaluations covering administration, training staff, close order drill, first aid, map reading, weapons handling, as well as practical and theoretical examinations. CWTS and LTS students continued the program through ground demonstrations, alongside a fancy drill and a raid and ambush simulation that highlighted the cadets’ coordination and field readiness.
The activity concluded with the awarding of certificates, announcement of results, and the turnover of the Corps of Cadets. Dr. John B. Tayaban, Vice President for Administration, delivered the response, followed by the closing remarks of Mr. Domingo T. Guntalilib Jr., Head of the NSTP Office.
The results underscore the SMU-ROTC Unit’s continued growth and its sustained pursuit of excellence.
