Empowering Choices: SEAIT’s Seminar on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control

The School of Engineering, Architecture, and Information Technology (SEAIT) recently celebrated its annual SEAIT Week with a variety of activities designed to enrich student learning and well-being. As part of the celebration, the Guidance and Testing Office was invited to conduct an informative seminar on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control last September 29, 2025, attended by students from the SEAIT Department.

The seminar was both relevant and timely, as the month of October marks the nationwide observance of Substance Use Prevention Month. The session was facilitated by Miss Meca Jade M. Corpuz, a guidance counselor from the SMU Guidance and Testing Office, who delivered an engaging and insightful discussion.

Miss Corpuz highlighted the different types of drugs, their harmful effects on individuals and communities, and the crucial role of students in helping prevent substance abuse. The talk encouraged students to reflect on the importance of making informed and responsible choices. Many participants actively engaged by asking questions, seeking clarifications, and sharing their insights, making the session interactive and meaningful.

The seminar concluded with a powerful reminder: “Making healthy choices today can lead to a safe, brighter future.” To further strengthen awareness and access to support, Miss Corpuz also shared help hotlines and contact details of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), encouraging students to reach out whenever they or someone they know may be in need of assistance.

The Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Seminar served as a valuable reminder that a single choice can have lasting effects—not only on an individual’s life but also on the community as a whole. Through education, awareness, and proactive action, students are empowered to be part of the solution in creating a healthier, drug-free society.
