Marians to Nationals: SMU’s “4PAUSE” Triumphs at Regional Tourism Challenge

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — In a display of cross-functional brilliance and “Marian” excellence, Saint Mary’s University (SMU) emerged victorious during the Regional Vetting of the Tourism Start-up Challenge (Region 2), held February 11, at the CHED Region 2 Office.

The SMU delegation outperformed competitors from Isabela State University (ISU), Batanes State College, and Cagayan State University Sanchez Mira, securing their spot as the official regional representative for the upcoming National Competition. This win not only brings pride to the university but also secures a P250,000 grant to further refine their innovative tourism proposal before they face the best in the country for the P5-million grand prize.

Under the guidance of coach Aryan L. Yuzon, the powerhouse team—featuring Christian Josh B. Acosta, Jasfer Dela Cruz, John Paul C. Dres, Jullainne Candy Lou I. Bajo, Johanna M. Delos Santos, and Keyneshie A. Dalpig—secured the top spot. Their winning pitch, “4PAUSE,” captivated the panel of judges by offering a fresh perspective on regional travel that balances modern digital needs with sustainable tourism practices.

This achievement is deeply rooted in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically focusing on SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). By prioritizing responsible economic impact and community-centric progress, 4PAUSE stands as a model for future-ready entrepreneurship.

This regional win officially secures SMU’s advancement to the national stage, where they will represent Region 2 as a beacon of sustainable tourism and academic excellence.
