Physical, Life Science Research Teams advance to Regionals

Two teams from Saint Mary’s University Junior High School and Science High School (SMU JHS & SHS) qualify for the Regional Science, Technology, and Mathematics Fair (RSTF) after placing 2nd in the Physical Science and Life Science Team categories, respectively, in the Division Science, Technology, and Mathematics Fair (DSTF), held at Dupax del Sur National High School on October 10.
The different awards garnered by the studies of SMU JHS & SHS students are as follows:
- 2nd in the PHYSICAL SCIENCE TEAM category: “Comparative Study of the Wound Healing Properties and Dermatological Assessment of Tamarind (Tamarindus indica) Seed and Leaf Extract in Cream Formulation” BY Enyka Tiam, Franz Derilo, Herald Dulay
- 2nd in the LIFE SCIENCE TEAM category: “Isolation of Endophytic Fungus from Washington Navel Orange (Citrus sinensis) leaves: It’s Polyethylene Biodegradation Agent Potential” by Oleeyah de Leon, Nieve Fadulla, Solenn Mijares
- 3rd in the PHYSICAL SCIENCE INDIVIDUAL category: “Development of a Smart-Activated Stove Control System” by Chymiel Cunanan
- 3rd in the ROBOTICS INDIVIDUAL category: “The GRASS System: Gardening Robot Assistant for Sustainability and Statistics” by Eunice Abayao
- 3rd in the MATHEMATICS & COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCES category: “Pharmacological Kinetics of Devil’s Horsewhip (Achyranthes aspera) Leaf Extract: Quantitative Analysis of Brine Shrimp Lethality over an 18-hour period” by Shaniyah Bacud, Caitra Caballero, Eion Baracao
The theme of this year’s DSTF is anchored on the 2025 Science and Technology Week Celebration of the Department of Science and Technology: “Siyensya, Teknolohiya at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Kinabukasan.”
