Project GREEN MIND: Generating Responsible Environmental Education for Nurturing Minds in Nature and Development

Education for Sustainability with WWF-Philippines – The research team of Project Green Mind, in collaboration with the Worldwide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF-Philippines), has conducted a forum-workshop on Biodiversity, Climate Change, and Education for Sustainability. The forum-workshop was held on September 29, 2025, from 7:30 to 12:00 Noon at the St. Pedro Calungsod Hall. The participants were student leaders from the extracurricular and co-curricular organizations and students from The Contemporary World classes. The forum was facilitated by Miss Ruthie Maye R. Padilla, an officer of the WWF-Philippines since 2008. She is a big fan of nature and a strong believer in the power of education. Her personal goal is to make people fall in love with nature, cultivate curiosity about the planet, and encourage action for and commitment to the environment. The participants’ evaluation of the activity speaks about the impact of the forum on them. One participant wrote

Nature is not separate from us, it is us. Too often, people see the environment as something out there, a background to our lives, when in truth, we are a part of it. It is a reminder that the fight for a cleaner, safer, and greener world is not only about saving ecosystems but about securing our own future and dignity as human beings.

Project GREEN MIND is a research utilization initiative that instills environmental awareness, develops eco-consciousness, and promotes environmental stewardship by embedding responsible environmental education into university activities, community development, and youth engagement. At its core, the project champions the idea that education is a powerful tool for cultivating environmental knowledge, eco-consciousness, and the values and actions necessary for sustaining our planet. This project is also a collaboration with its external partner, the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF-Philippines). The facilitator was assisted by the researchers, particularly Dr. Edwin Edilberto Mania, Miss Nicole Aquino, and Mr. Samuel Damayon.  The forum must have an impact on the participants, as one wrote – It was really commendable that the forum was not just about giving information and sharing awareness, instead, the incorporation of activities that we students did ourselves, made us united, a community that has the same goals, to preserve our Mother Earth.
