Definitions:

1. 1. 1.   Persons. This refers to learners and other beneficiaries of educational services in SMU
           a. Learner – students actively engaged in formal education programs in SMU
           b. Other beneficiaries – parents, guardians, employers, communities, partners who are affected by or benefits from the educational programs and services of SMU

2.  Integral formation. This pertains to the university’s commitment to the holistic development of learners and engagement with other beneficiaries

3.   Inspired by Christ’s mission and driven by excellence – This highlights SMU’s tagline that reflects the core values of excellence, innovation, communion, and Christ’s passion, which guide Marian behavior

4.  Continual improvement. This refers to the university’s periodic evaluation and  monitoring of internal and external factors to identify potential risks and   opportunities

5.  Socially responsive. This pertains to the university’s commitment to contributing  to community building by being locally responsive and globally competitive, focused on CICM and social advocacies
