SMU BS Pharmacy researchers named among Top 3 Region II entries at 2026 Luzon Scientific Meet

BS Pharmacy student-researchers of Saint Mary’s University (SMU) were recognized after their study was selected as one of the top three (3) entries representing Region II at the 2026 Luzon Regional Scientific Meeting.
Their research, titled “Formulation and Evaluation of Corchorus olitorius (Jute) Leaf Extract-Based Anti-Aging Serum: A Study on Its Skin Hydration,” was presented during the two-day event held on April 7–8 at Acacia Hotel Manila in Muntinlupa City.
The scientific meeting was organized by the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology. It brought together scientists, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss science, technology, and innovation (STI) initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SMU-Pharmacy research team is composed of Pamela Guballa, Romelyn Chynna De Ramos, Irish Birco, Darlene Calderon, Chloe Lopez, and Kim Abellana. The study was conducted under the guidance of their research adviser-promoter, Melchora Bautista.
The recognition highlights the university’s commitment to research excellence and innovation. It also reflects the dedication of its student researchers in advancing scientific knowledge and developing practical, locally sourced solutions in the field of health and wellness.
