SMU Elevates Its Commitment to ASEAN Quality Standards

Saint Mary’s University (SMU) reaffirmed its commitment to quality and excellence in higher education through the successful completion of the 20th Assessor Training Workshop for AUN-QA Programme Assessment (Tier 2 Training) at Mahidol University, Thailand from October 22 to 29, 2025.
Representing SMU were Associate Professor Pearl Via Coballes, Director of the Institutional Development and Quality Assurance Office (IDQAO), and Dr. Harrison Villanueva, Assistant Director for IDQAO. They joined participants from the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand, all representing member universities of the AUN-QA network.
The Tier 2 Training deepened participants’ understanding of the AUN-QA Programme Assessment process, emphasizing the application of the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle, development of assessment tools, preparation of programme documentation, and delivery of constructive feedback and reports. Through interactive workshops, mock assessments, and case-based exercises, the program enhanced participants’ competence in institutional and regional quality assurance.
This achievement strategically positions SMU to prepare its academic programs for AUN-QA accreditation, aligning the university with ASEAN standards of excellence. It also reinforces SMU’s drive for internationalization, continuous improvement, and globally competitive, outcome-based education
