SMU Researchers Publish Study on Mobile Application Adoption and Self-Regulated Learning in Scopus-Indexed Journal

Saint Mary’s University celebrates the publication of a research article by SMU alumna Miss Shenna Mae B. Decoro and Dr. Elsa L. Cajucom, Professor and Director of the Center for Natural Sciences, in the Jurnal Pendidikan IPA Indonesia (JPII), a Scopus-indexed journal published by Universitas Negeri Semarang.
Titled “Mobile Application Adoption and Self-Regulated Learning in Chemistry Instruction: Pathways to Enhanced Engagement and Autonomy in General Chemistry,” the article was published in Volume 15, No. 3 (September 2026). The study examines the relationship between mobile application adoption and self-regulated learning among senior high school STEM students enrolled in General Chemistry.
Using a descriptive-correlational research design involving 87 STEM students, the study found that the participants reported high levels of mobile application adoption and self-regulated learning. The findings further revealed a positive and significant association between mobile application adoption and the various dimensions of self-regulated learning (Decoro & Cajucom, 2026).
Based on these findings, the researchers developed an Independent Learning Plan (ILP) for General Chemistry to support students’ goal setting, self-monitoring, self-reflection, engagement, and self-efficacy.
The publication contributes to the growing body of research in science education, mobile learning, and technology-enhanced instruction. Jurnal Pendidikan IPA Indonesia is indexed in Scopus and is classified as Q3 in the Education category based on the SCImago Journal & Country Rank (SJR).
The publication also highlights the continuing contributions of SMU alumni and faculty to educational research and the advancement of innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
