SMU starts the academic year with the Mass of the Holy Spirit

Held every year at the start of the academic calendar to seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance and wisdom, the Mass of the Holy Spirit was held on August 18 at the Fr. Cornelius Tonus Gymnasium.
In his Homily, Fr. Marcial Lloyd Castañeda, encouraged the teachers, learners, students, mentors and educators to “let us read the story of Babel, and let us tell the story of Pentecost. What is does the Pentecost telling us? Jesus greeted His apostles, breathed life upon them with the Holy Spirit, and they were given life.”
Fr. Marcial shared that “We are given artificial intelligence (AI) not to become our master, but become our tool to enhance something but not to become the absolute end. AI should support NI, natural intelligence. It is not enough for AI to support NI; we need SI (spiritual intelligence). We need the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit to consecrate and purify our lives, to strengthen our values and virtues, and continue our communication with God. “
The morning Mass was dedicated to the freshmen, transferees, new employees, and the administration, while the afternoon Mass was for academic and non-academic personnel with the sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
Fr. Castañeda who was the main celebrant and homilist is from the Vicariate of Bontoc-Lagawe. Co-celebrating the Holy Eucharist were Fr. Charlie Buyayo, CICM assigned in Kiangan, Ifugao; and Fr. Nemesio Huesca, CICM who is starting his stint as the new University Chaplain replacing Fr. Alberto Tamisen, CICM.#
