SMU Strengthens Quality Excellence at the 2025 PAASCU General Assembly

Five administrators from Saint Mary’s University (SMU) represented the institution at the 2025 PAASCU General Assembly held on November 14, 2025, at Conrad Manila with the theme “Transformative Education for Life: Shaping a future where learning, trust, and technology align.”
The assembly featured keynote messages from the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education, updates on PAASCU’s accreditation directions, international learning sessions, and the announcement of the 2026–2028 Board of Trustees election results. Discussions highlighted the evolving needs of higher education, accreditation reforms, and the integration of technology and AI in quality assurance.
Representing SMU were Dr. Ma. Cristeta Aduca (Grade School Principal), Mr. Melencio Bernardino Jr. (Senior High School Principal) Mrs. Pearl Via Coballes (Director, Institutional Development and Quality Assurance Office/IDQAO), Dr. Harrison Villanueva (Asst. Director, IDQAO), and Mrs. Melchora Bautista (Department Head, Pharmacy)
A significant highlight for the University was the recognition of Dr. Aduca who received the James J. Meany, S.J. Service Award for exemplary service, having completed over 10 survey and consultancy visits as a PAASCU accreditor for Basic Education.
SMU’s participation reaffirms its commitment to strengthening quality assurance, aligning with national and global standards, and contributing actively to the country’s accreditation community.
