The faculty and staff of Saint Mary’s University convened for the annual Administrative Session at the Sacred Heart Center to address the institution’s critical updates and challenges. The event, held from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM on Sept. 11, 2024, brought together SMU’s leadership and administrative staff for a comprehensive review of the University’s direction, performance, and upcoming priorities.
In his welcome remarks, Vice President for Administration Dr. John G. Tayaban emphasized the importance of administrative unity in ensuring that the University’s operational and academic goals are met effectively throughout the academic year.
New employees and appointees were introduced by Mrs. Ruby Lyn R. Nuestro, Director of the Human Resource Development Office (HRDO), signifying a continued focus on strengthening the institution’s workforce.
In a highlight of the session, Dr. John Octavious S. Palina, University President, delivered a comprehensive State of the University address. He outlined SMU’s key achievements over the past year and laid out the strategic direction for the new academic year. Dr. Palina discussed major initiatives to reinforce SMU’s position as a premier institution for quality education and student success.
Following this, Mrs. Pearl Via S. Coballes, Director of the Institutional Development and Quality Assurance Office (IDQAO), provided updates on the University’s quality assurance programs, highlighting ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance academic excellence.
The event then shifted to administrative updates, commendations, issues, and concerns, with Dr. Tayaban returning to provide crucial insights into the University’s administrative operations. Each concerned administrator responded to the issues raised ranging from academics, financial, and administrative concerns.
