Global Glory: Young Marian Wins Top Prize in International Poetry Contest

Thalia Chanelle B. Fajardo, a Grade 6 – St. Andrew student at Saint Mary’s University Grade School clinched First Place award in the Holy Cross Family Ministries “Try Prayer! It Works! Global Contest 2025” for poem writing competition that brought international recognition to SMUGS and the Philippines. Earlier this year, Fajardo earned first place at the national level with the same poetic work. 

The global competition, held under the theme “Prayer: My Pathway to Peace,” saw Fajardo’s winning entry, aptly titled “My Prayers and I,” rise above numerous submissions from 18 countries around the world. The prestigious awarding ceremony took place on October 11, 2025, at the Parish of Mary the Immaculate on Wisdom Street, Teresa Village, Quezon City.

Fajardo was honored with a monetary award and a certificate in recognition of her profound literary talent and insightful interpretation of the contest’s theme. Her victory is a significant achievement, highlighting her skill in crafting poetry that resonates with a universal message of faith and tranquility.

 

The young poet’s success was the result of dedicated guidance and mentorship from her school’s leadership and faculty. Fajardo was supported by her family and Dr. Ma. Cristeta M. Aduca, the School Principal; Mrs. Ailyn D. Laplano, English teacher and the Quality Assurance Coordinator; and Dr. Faustino B. Saquing Jr., the Languages Coordinator.

This international award is a clear testament to the commitment of SMUGS to global excellence. The school’s mission to nurture not only academic brilliance but also artistic and moral development is powerfully affirmed by Fajardo’s achievement.
