SMU Recognized as Global Rankings Rising Star in Region 2

Saint Mary’s University (SMU) has been honored with the Global Rankings Rising Star Award by the Commission on Higher Education – Regional Office II (CHED RO II) in recognition of the institution’s significant advancement in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2025.
SMU demonstrated remarkable progress by climbing higher in the WURI Global Top 300, a testament to the university’s strengthened commitment to innovation, internationalization, and global competitiveness. The university’s participation in the WURI rankings was led by Dr. Darwin Don M. Dacles, former University Research Director, whose leadership contributed to this milestone achievement.
The award was formally presented during the Regional Executive Conference, Engagement and Collaboration (REConEC) held on December 9, 2025, at the Global Center Function Hall of St. Paul University Philippines, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. CHED RO II lauded SMU for its sustained efforts in elevating the quality of higher education in Region II.
Representing the university during the event were Dr. Moises Alexander T. Asuncion, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Ms. Eufrecia Lucas, staff of the Vice President for Mission and Identity.
This recognition further affirms SMU’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and strengthening its global presence through innovative and future-ready initiatives.
