CEBU CITY — Saint Mary’s University (SMU) joined Catholic educators and institutions from across the country at the 2026 Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) National Convention, held at the Waterfront Hotel Cebu City from September 23 to 25, under the theme “Newness in Catholic Education: Charting a Constellation of Hope.”
Day 1 opened with an Industry Innovation Forum featuring emerging technologies and approaches in education, including AI-supported learning analytics, coding education, and virtual reality. The day continued with a conversation on youth empowerment, emphasizing active listening, accompaniment, authenticity, and meaningful youth participation in shaping the future of Catholic education.
Day 2 deepened the dialogue through sessions on formative, skills, ecological, and pastoral education. Discussions underscored the importance of forming compassionate, discerning, competent, and values-driven learners who can navigate the opportunities and challenges brought about by rapid technological and social change.
Day 3 brought the three-day gathering to a meaningful close with the recognition of Catholic education leaders and institutions, including the conferment of the 2026 Catholic School Heroes Award and the recognition of 58 jubilarian schools. The sessions also highlighted the vital role of Catholic education in national development and in nurturing communities anchored in faith, service, and human dignity.
The closing Eucharistic celebration, led by Archbishop Alberto S. Uy, emphasized the need for Catholic education to remain deeply rooted in its spirit, identity, and mission. His call for wisdom and an informed conscience resonated strongly in an age shaped by artificial intelligence, underscoring that technology must complement—not replace—the distinctly human work of forming conscience, character, and faith.
As the CEAP community concluded its three-day gathering, SMU joins fellow Catholic institutions in carrying forward a shared constellation of faith, mission, innovation, and hope—committed to shaping an educational future where technology advances learning while human dignity, conscience, and compassion remain at its heart.
