DOLE, SMU forge partnership to boost student, alumni employment opportunities

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Saint Mary’s University (SMU) officially formalized their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) establishing a Job Placement Office (JPO). The initiative aims to strengthen labor rights protection, promote employment, and ensure equal work opportunities for students and graduates.

The ceremonial signing, held in line with the observance of Labor Day 2026, brought together key representatives from both institutions. Representing SMU was Dr. John G. Tayaban, Vice President for Administration, alongside Mr. Humprey Ian O. Sagabaen, Officer-in-Charge of the Alumni Affairs Office. DOLE was represented by Mrs. Elizabeth U. Martinez, Provincial Director of the Nueva Vizcaya Field Office.

The University’s Job Placement Office is envisioned to serve as a vital bridge between the academe and the labor sector. It will facilitate job matching, career guidance, and employment support services tailored to the needs of SMU students and alumni.

Moreover, the initiative underscores a shared commitment to upholding fair labor practices and improving workforce readiness among young professionals. By integrating employment services within the University, the JPO is expected to provide accessible, responsive, and sustainable support for job seekers.

The collaboration highlights the continuing efforts of both institutions to empower the next generation of workers while fostering inclusive economic growth in the region.
