Saint Mary's University maintains ISO Certification after successful 1st Surveillance Audit

Saint Mary’s University (SMU) successfully underwent its first surveillance audit for its ISO 9001:2015 certification on April 23, 2024. This audit, conducted by NQA Philippines, a leading assessment and certification body, reaffirms that SMU has effectively implemented a quality management system (QMS) that aligns with the standards set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

In anticipation of the surveillance audit, SMU conducted several preparatory activities. On September 29, 2023, the university’s academic and administrative officers convened for a quality planning session to review and revise their Quality Objectives and Plans (QOPs). Additionally, the university conducted an internal audit (IQA) from June 7th to July 6th and on September 21st to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with standards.

SMU initiated its journey toward ISO certification by establishing its QMS during the Academic Year 2022-2023. The QMS aims to ensure quality education by measuring customer satisfaction and compliance with customer, regulatory, or industry requirements. With the QMS in place, SMU applied for ISO 9001:2015 international certification, and successfully underwent an external quality audit in December 2022.

As a result, in February 2023, SMU received its official Certificate of Registration from NQA Philippines, officially recognizing the university as an ISO-certified institution. The registration certifies that the university maintains a quality management system for providing quality basic and higher education services.

The ISO is an independent, non-governmental organization that develops relevant international standards that help institutions ensure quality processes and services.
