Science with Conscience: Mr. James C. Ollero Leads Seminar on Ethical Research at Linngo ng Lingkod at Likha 2026

As part of the celebration of Lingkod at Likha 2026: Harmonizing Public Service and Creativity through AI-Enhanced Research, the University successfully conducted a seminar on research ethics at Fr. Gerry Bouckaert Hall, Sacred Heart Center. The activity gathered faculty members, researchers, students, and academic personnel in promoting responsible and ethical research practices.
The seminar featured Mr. James C. Ollero, LPT, MAT, PhD (c), Assistant Professor at National University – Mall of Asia and PhD Candidate at De La Salle University, who delivered his talk titled “Science with Conscience: Unravelling the Moral Blueprint in Experimentation.”
During the session, Mr. Ollero discussed essential topics including research ethics, core ethical principles, historical foundations, the Declaration of Helsinki, animal research ethics, and other standards that guide responsible experimentation and scholarly inquiry. He emphasized that scientific progress must always be anchored on integrity, accountability, and respect for life.
The activity highlighted the University’s commitment to fostering a culture of research excellence where innovation is balanced with ethical responsibility, especially in the era of AI-enhanced research.
Organized through the collaborative efforts of the University Research Ethics Office, headed by Mrs. Lorna C. Aban, together with the School of Natural Sciences and the University Research Center, the seminar served as a meaningful reminder that true advancement in research is achieved not only through discoveries, but through conscience-driven action and ethical responsibility.
