Saint Mary’s University (SMU) celebrates the success of its delegates who earned awards at the 23rd Word Cup and 8th Journalism Masterclass held on December 5-7, 2024, in Boracay Island.

Ms. Lourdes Nieves H. Castillo, a faculty member in the BA Communication and AB Journalism programs, won First Place in the Photojournalism category for School Paper Advisers. Meanwhile, Charlotte Mae M. Calilit, a fourth-year BA Communication student, earned Third Place in the Mobile Journalism category for college students.

The event featured workshops on news writing, mobile journalism, photojournalism, feature writing, and editorial and column writing. The speakers of the event were experienced journalists from The Manila Times and GMA Integrated News, providing participants with practical knowledge and skills.

Also attending was Mr. Christian Jos Obana, a faculty member of the Languages Department.

SMU’s participation in this event underscores the institution’s commitment to nurturing young journalists and providing them with opportunities to excel.
