On February 5, 2025, Saint Mary’s University successfully implemented its first “No Vehicle/No Motorcycle Day,” an initiative aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable practices. The policy restricted the entry of vehicles and motorcycles into key campus areas, including the Grade School, Junior High School, College Campus, and dormitories, from 1:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
Exemptions were granted to SMU official vehicles, emergency vehicles, bicycles, and solar/electric-powered mobility aids, as well as vehicles transporting persons with disabilities approved by the administration. Visitors were encouraged to unload passengers at the gates and proceed on foot.
This initiative was supported by security personnel who facilitated smooth implementation and provided guidance. The activity highlights SMU’s commitment to environmental sustainability and sets the stage for further refinement of the policy based on this initial execution.
