URC Hosts Capacitation and Certification for Quantitative Data Analysts

To strengthen the university’s research capability and foster data-driven innovation, the University Research Center (URC) successfully conducted the Capacitation and Certification of Quantitative Data Analysts on November 5, 2025, at Room AP202. The whole-day training, which ran from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, aimed to enhance the participants’ competence in quantitative data analysis and interpretation using Jamovi, a user-friendly statistical software for research.
The program officially opened with an invocation led by Miss Gelyne P. Gallangi, URC Staff, followed by the Opening Remarks and Statement of Objectives from Mrs. Angela C. Garra, School of Accountancy and Business Research Coordinator, who emphasized the vital role of accurate data analysis in producing meaningful and credible research outputs. Miss Gerene-Leigh C. Almazan, Research Coordinator for the School of Engineering, Architecture, and Information Technology, then introduced the esteemed resource speakers: Dr. Melanie G. Gurat, URC Director, and Miss Rhodora M. Aquino, University Statistician.
During the morning session, Dr. Gurat revisited essential statistical tools, covering both descriptive and inferential statistics to strengthen participants’ understanding of data patterns and hypothesis testing. This segment refreshed the participants’ analytical foundations and prepared them for more complex applications in the next session.
In the afternoon, Miss Aquino facilitated a hands-on data analysis workshop using Jamovi. The interactive activity allowed attendees to gain practical experience and confidence in using statistical software. The session culminated in a certification test, where participants demonstrated their learning and proficiency in applying quantitative tools for research.
Mrs. Geraldine Y. Ferreras, Nursing Research Coordinator, delivered the Closing Remarks, commending the participants for their active engagement and acknowledging the commitment of the University Research Center in organizing relevant and empowering training programs. She emphasized giving voice to the numbers and telling the stories behind the data.
The event shows URC’s unwavering commitment to professional development and research excellence. By equipping Marian faculty members and student researchers with the tools and confidence to analyze data effectively, the university continues to uphold its mission and vision of producing quality, evidence-based studies that contribute to academic advancement.
