Community Feast concludes SMU’s IP and Museum Month celebration

The spirit of unity and cultural pride was palpable as the community feast was celebrated at the Rev. Fr. Tonus Gymnasium on October 30, 2024. Following an earlier ritual at JVD amphitheater, the festivities carried on with a vibrant program facilitated by Mr. Allan Guiab, fostering a warm and celebratory atmosphere among community members.

As people settled in, varied kinds of food were served by various offices, filling tables with traditional flavors and bringing everyone together. The gathering began with an opening prayer led by Rev. Fr. Alberto I. Tamisen, CICM, who was also joyfully celebrating his birthday. Following this, Ms. Leanne Jaye Derije, SCC Secretary, gave the opening remarks, setting a tone of gratitude and community spirit. Later, Laurice Kaye P. Laguinday, the  Indigenous Coordinator, delivered words of gratitude, expressing appreciation for the community’s unity and participation during the Indigenous Peoples and Museum Month.

The audience was then treated with a lively cultural performance by SMU BIBAK, showcasing the rich heritage of the region. The event continued with an impressive lineup of performances by various cultural groups, including SMU BIBAK, the SMU Band, and the SMU Dance Troupe – each bringing unique styles and rhythms to the stage, highlighting diverse cultural expressions within the community.

As the performances concluded, refreshments were served, leading up to the much-anticipated highlight of the feast – the watwat. The feast marked a fitting close to the celebration that reflects the shared heritage and camaraderie that define the Marian community.
