SMU Hospitality and Tourism Students Explore Cebu and Bohol in Immersive Educational Tour

NUEVA VIZCAYA — Bridging classroom theory with global industry standards, 94 Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) students, guided by five faculty chaperones, embarked on a comprehensive educational tour of Cebu and Bohol from May 10 to 13, 2026.
The experiential journey kicked off with a Cebu City tour focused on history and cultural heritage tourism. On the second day, students explored industrial tourism at Profoods International Corporation, observing the advanced technology behind the world’s famous dried mangoes. This was followed by a premier seminar series at Cebu Parklane International Hotel. Industry experts, including Senior Tourism Officer Renelyn P. Villegas-Enriquez, Anna May Delagao, Marlon Marinduque, and Dexter B. Laurel, enlightened students on policy formulation, property management systems, housekeeping operations, and hospitality data security.
The third day highlighted ecotourism and heritage preservation in Bohol. Students enjoyed a Loboc River Cruise, visited the iconic Chocolate Hills and Tarsier Sanctuary, and witnessed the processing of Asin Tibuok—an endangered, artisanal sea-salt making tradition unique to the Philippines. The tour concluded on the fourth day with a historical immersion at the Mactan Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City before the delegation returned home.
This tour directly aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). By immersing students in actual operational environments and heritage sites, the HTM department successfully achieved its core objectives: fostering cultural stewardship, mastering cutting-edge property management technologies, and understanding sustainable destination zoning—fully preparing these future leaders for the global hospitality landscape.
