Project Lakbay Libro Brings the Joy of Reading to Barangay Vista Alegre

The Library Working Students Organization (LWSO), in partnership with the Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) program under the School of Engineering, Architecture, and Information Technology (SEAIT), successfully conducted Project Lakbay Libro at the Barangay Vista Alegre Child Development Center on March 11, 2026.

The outreach initiative aimed to promote literacy and cultivate a love for reading among children and youth in the community. By bringing storytelling sessions and book-related activities beyond campus, the program provided young learners with engaging opportunities to explore the world of books and knowledge.

The activity was attended by 23 Library Working Students, 4 BLIS students, and 13 ULRC staff members, seven of whom also serve as BLIS faculty members, together with barangay officials and parents. Their collaboration highlighted the importance of community partnerships in supporting education and lifelong learning.

A total of 28 young pupils enthusiastically participated in animated storytelling sessions that sparked their imagination and interest in reading. The event also included a book donation to enrich the learning resources of the Child Development Center, ensuring that children will continue to benefit from reading materials even after the program.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, Project Lakbay Libro demonstrated how collective efforts can strengthen literacy programs and expand access to knowledge in local communities.

Through the dedication of LWSO and BLIS student volunteers, the initiative not only supported the educational development of the children of Vista Alegre but also reinforced the university’s mission of sharing knowledge and inspiring a lifelong love for reading beyond campus.
