VISION

The Alumni Affairs Office (AAO) of Saint Mary’s University serves as a vital conduit between the University and its alumni, inspiring them to witness to Christ’s mission by exemplifying communion, excellence, innovation, and social responsibility

MISSION

We commit ourselves to:

strengthen alumni engagement in the University’s academic, social, and development efforts;
maintain an accurate and updated alumni directory;
oversee the publication of the SMU Alumni Bulletin and Newsletter to sustain communication and connection;
provide job placement support to graduating students in partnership with the Guidance and Testing Office (GTO); and
manage the operations of the Balai Na Alumni as a welcoming home for alumni engagement.

HISTORY

Cognizant of the vital role its alumni play in achieving its vision, mission, goals, and objectives, Saint Mary’s University established the Alumni Affairs Office (AAO) in 1992.

The AAO was created to reach the broadest possible number of Marian alumni, organize them into active alumni groups, and foster a supportive network that contributes to the University’s institutional endeavors.

Through the years, the office has evolved in response to the needs of both the University and its alumni:

1992: Established as the Office of Alumni Affairs.
2001: Renamed the Alumni Affairs and External Affairs Office to reflect a broader scope.
2007 (October): Expanded to include Career Placement Services and rebranded as the Alumni Affairs and Career Placement Services Office.
2009: Adopted the name Center for Alumni Relations and External Affairs (CARE), emphasizing its dual role in alumni engagement and external partnerships.
2010: With the creation of a separate External Affairs Office, the unit returned to its streamlined name: the Alumni Affairs Office.

Throughout its more than three decades of history, the AAO has remained committed to fostering lifelong connections with Marian alumni, promoting institutional pride, and encouraging alumni participation in the University’s programs, initiatives, and overall development.
