In the tradition of excellence and a steadfast commitment to equipping students with a comprehensive understanding of interior design, the class in Ergonomics and Facilities Planning for the Hospitality Industry recently hosted a dynamic guest lecture. Under the guidance of Mr. John Rey Piñera, the session titled “Interior Design – Eco-friendly Hospitality: A Blueprint for Green Lodging Design” set the stage for a deep dive into sustainable design principles specifically tailored for the hospitality sector.

During his lecture, SMU alumnus Ar. John Harold O. Siblag, UAP, brought his extensive industry expertise and passion for sustainable design to the forefront. With a wealth of experience garnered from his focus on eco-friendly interiors in hotels, restaurants, and various large-scale projects, Ar. Siblag provided students with a unique window into the innovative practices reshaping modern hospitality design’s landscape. His presentation showcased theoretical concepts and brought forth practical strategies that integrate sustainability into every aspect of interior aesthetics.

Drawing on a remarkable career marked by achievements from regional to international competitions, Ar. Siblag shared insights from several prestigious projects. His involvement with renowned firms such as Hirsch Bedner Associates and Luxe Spaces + Design illustrated how thoughtful design can elevate guest experiences while minimizing environmental impact. Through a detailed exploration of natural materials, energy-efficient solutions, and the artful blending of functionality and beauty, he demonstrated how green lodging designs can transform spaces into sustainable sanctuaries that remain inviting and innovative.
