SMU Reconnects with Southeast Asian Partners in Teacher Education

Saint Mary’s University strengthened its regional partnerships in Teacher Education through its participation in the SEA-Teacher Programme Evaluation Meeting and the Southeast Asia Conference on Pre-Service Teacher Education held on October 20–21, 2026, at Seda Manila Bay Hotel in Parañaque City.

Representing SMU were Dr. Felipe V. Nantes, Jr., Dean of the School of Teacher Education and Humanities, and Dr. Aireen O. Santos, Head of the Department of Professional Education. The event provided an opportunity to reconnect with partner teacher education institutions across Southeast Asia and explore avenues for stronger academic collaboration.

The engagement paved the way for planning future teaching immersion opportunities for SMU pre-service teachers in partner institutions across the region. At the same time, SMU is preparing to welcome pre-service teachers from its Southeast Asian partner institutions, fostering cross-cultural learning, international exposure, and the exchange of teaching practices.

Through these initiatives, SMU reaffirms its commitment to internationalization and to preparing future teachers who are globally competent, culturally responsive, and ready to contribute to the evolving landscape of education.
