Saint Mary’s University (SMU) was recognized by the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2024 as one of the top universities in the world with “real contributions to industry and society.” SMU’s ranks are as follows in the following categories:

Rank 4 in Student Support and Engagement,
Rank 9 in Entrepreneurial Spirit,
Rank 21 in Social Responsibility.

SMU was also among the overall Global Top 300 Innovative Universities in 2024. Based on its website, the “World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) assesses higher education institutions’ real contributions to industry and society, highlighting innovative education, research, and engagement with society. Using 13 categories, it encompasses innovation targets and methods, offering a comprehensive measure of institutions’ creative contributions to societal advancement. The ranking aims to spotlight higher education institutions that excel in these innovative approaches, thereby inspiring advancements across the academic and societal landscape.”

This is the first time for SMU to participate in the WURI rankings.

Last year, a dedicated team composed of selected faculty and administrators was formed to lead the SMU WURI application. Thanks for the full support of the administration led by SMU President. Dr. John Octavious S. Palina.
