BAYOMBONG, NUEVA VIZCAYA — The Saint Mary’s University (SMU) School of Health and Natural Sciences (SHANS), in partnership with the SMU Grade School Department, conducted the St. Nicholas’ Medical and Dental Mission for the learners of Baguingey Elementary School. Guided by the theme “A Tradition of Giving: Restoring Health and Hope to Every Home,” the outreach initiative supported the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The activity was led by Mrs. Elery Quiben, together with Community Engagement Coordinators Miss Murtle Vaquilar and Joy Balawa, who coordinated a team of health professionals, faculty members, and student volunteers. Medical consultations were provided by Dr. Frederick Fabian and DepEd’s Dr. Ryan Christopher Buccat, while dental services were led by Dr. Charmine Bennett and DepEd’s Dr. Aaron Paul Bernas, with assistance from Mr. Marvin Quiambao, Dental Aide. Faculty and students from the SMU SHANS Nursing and Pharmacy Departments also rendered support, contributing to the successful implementation of the outreach activity.

In addition to clinical services, the mission addressed the learners’ broader needs by distributing dental kits, hygiene supplies, and umbrellas to encourage proper hygiene practices and regular school attendance. Nutritious snacks and lunch were also provided for all participants.

The activity concluded with a campus tour within Saint Mary’s University, giving the learners an opportunity to experience the university environment and encouraging them to aspire toward higher education. Through initiatives such as this, SMU and its partners continue to promote community well-being while strengthening collaborative efforts toward inclusive and sustainable development.
