BAYOMBONG, NUEVA VIZCAYA — Saint Mary’s University (SMU) Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) students proudly attended and represented the institution on September 15, 2026, at the Tourism Governance Seminar held at the Ammungan Hall inside the Capitol Compound in Bayombong. Organized as part of the Nueva Vizcaya Tourism Month Celebration 2026, the seminar focused on the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence.” The gathering provided young Marians with essential tech-driven skills, equipping them to innovate, transform, and lead local tourism into a modern, digital-first era.

The event featured prominent local leaders and regional experts who shared key insights on governance, local heritage, and policy innovation. One of the highlights of the seminar was the feature presentation on “4Pause,” delivered by Christian Josh B. Acosta on behalf of the group, which was selected as the Region 2 representative of the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to the national vetting in May 2026. The program continued with specialized sessions, including insights on the “Pagbiagan Festival” by Tourism Operations Officer I of Solano, Ms. Mae Madelaine D. Bucatan, discussions on the “Pangalingalingan Festival” by Municipal Tourism Officer Designate of Dupax del Sur, Mr. Gerry A. Daran, and an exploration of the “MITHI Ordinance” by Solano Negosyo Center Business Counsellor Mr. Farid Fhel Bin C. Baharudin. The seminar also featured – intermission performances by talents of Nueva Vizcaya. and wrapped up with concluding and closing remarks delivered by Provincial Tourism and Culture Officer Ms. Marichelle O. Costales, followed by the awarding of certificates and a joint photo opportunity.

SMU’s participation directly aligns with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiative advances Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work (SDG 8) and Innovation (SDG 9) through AI and tech-focused learning in regional tourism. Additionally, by safeguarding local cultural festivals and fostering strong multi-sectoral collaboration, the event reinforces Sustainable Cities (SDG 11) and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
